Rec of the Week:
(This week's rec is among the first fanfics I ever read, on my first forays into fandom. It remains one of my favourites and is a wonderful oakum story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.)
Transfer to the Rifles by Sue Law. (PG) How would a man like Sharpe cope with walking into a strange regiment uninvited, and how would that strange regiment, the 95th Rifles, react to Sharpe? Could Sharpe's devotion to the regiment start at this point? Sharpe, Colonel Wade Sharpe
Got a link for the next issue?
Please comment and let us know. And please tell your AoS friends about us. The more, the merrier, after all!
Note: For fic links, M&C = Master and Commander or Aubreyad, HH = Hornblower, POTC = Pirates of the Caribbean, S = Sharpe. Others will be added as required.

Waaaaaaaa!
March, Friday, 11th to Sunday 13th
Lectures will be on Patrick O'Brian (Count Tolstoy),The Nelsonian Naval Surgeon at Work Age (Mick Crumplin), The Forgotten Heroes: The Royal Marines in the Age of Nelson and Illustrating Naval History (Geoff Hunt).
*sighs*
Re: Waaaaaaaa!
I wish I had that sort of money. *sighs* Wonder if I could sneak into the Royal Marines lecture, on the cheap?
Re: Waaaaaaaa!
Maybe if you contact Pompey? Or maybe they know if the lecture will be held somewhere else too.
Re: Waaaaaaaa!
I think I may well do that thing. And take notes. Many many notes. :D Pompey's OK for me - my brother's down there so I can bunk down with him if necessary.
Re: Waaaaaaaa!
*crosses fingers for you*
Re: Waaaaaaaa!
Re: Waaaaaaaa!
Guess those attending the complete weekend are fans to, a rather august boy of fans though...
I could do without Mr Tolstoy who seems to cash in on his step-father's name, but the Marines, the Naval Surgeons and Mr Hunt would make my day...just as the concert and the dinner
Re: Waaaaaaaa!
Still, Jack himself was a foremast hand once.
(And if... IF I do get to attend even the one lecture, I shall certainly post my write-up and impressions on hms_surprise, or p_d on LJ. There is no way I would deprive the LJ-based fans of my poor gleanings, despite how I feel about LJ itself.)
Re: Waaaaaaaa!
Thank you. I think p_d and/or hms_s would be thrilled and grateful, and you can always sneak in some Jack and Stephen.
You'll be watching Holmes with morelindo? Give him my regards. ;D
Re: Waaaaaaaa!
I will certainly do my best to sneak in some Jack and Stephen.
(And I did promise a while back that I'd write something on the Marines for the Hornblower community, following_sea.)
Re: Waaaaaaaa!
Oh well.... ;D
Re: Waaaaaaaa!
Also... Just got an email back to say that YES I can attend the Marines lecture!!!
*dances round the room*
Re: Waaaaaaaa!
hms_surprise and anything_aos would be brilliant.
*envies totally*
Could you not ask for the Geoff Hunt, or the Naval Surgeons too.
Those would be of immense interest to me, and a lot of others...and you are hereby requested to take notes...or maybe Latin can ask too, and attend one of those.
And when you are there, you can enquire if it would generally be possible for fans to attend those lectures the next time they do such a weekend.
